Penny’s Puppies

PennysPuppies_4.29.16-10

Penny was rescued along with Gunnar (now adopted and known as Waylon). They were a breeding pair of Boston Terriers that were surrendered due to a job opportunity. We were told that Penny had recently been bred and would likely be expecting puppies. Her puppies are purebred Boston Terrier puppies, a real rarity to be born into Rescue.
Penny had a total of 6 puppies today with contractions beginning around 8:45 AM 4/27/2016. The second puppy was born about 9:50 AM with a very large hernia with only a very thin membrane of skin covering most of the belly. I rushed to the vet with Penny (who had puppy # 3 at about 10:15 right before we got into the car) with all 3 puppies.
Surgery on infant humans is risky, surgery on less than hour old puppies is almost unheard of, but we had to give her a chance. Dr. James thought maybe they could stitch the edges together. With Dr. James and team of 5, they got her stitched up. She survived the surgery, but we are a VERY long way from out of the woods yet. She has not yet started suckling and we will begin giving her a colostrum supplement if she doesn’t latch to momma Penny soon.
While Puppy #2 was receiving her surgery, Puppy #4 was born around 11 AM. Puppy #5 arrived around 12 PM with #6 practically biting at his heels at 12:19 PM. Dr. James came back and checked on mama Penny & all her little pennies and said we could head home.
Here’s the breakdown:
# 1 – Light Brindle Male
# 2 – Blue Female with Hernia Repair
# 3 – Blue Female
# 4 – Dark Brindle Female
# 5 – Dark Brindle Male
# 6 – Black/White Female

About Adoption:
Applications for puppies have been closed. No new puppy applications will be accepted. For those that have applications in already, there will be no announcement as to the placement of puppies until puppies are 8 weeks of age and they will not be ready to go to their forever homes until 12 to 14 weeks of age. We have a long road ahead and with babies, things can always go wrong.
Penny also has an adoptive home waiting on her when she is finished being a mother for the last time.
Thank you for your understanding. We hope you will follow along with‪#‎PennysPuppies‬ and watch them grow and learn with us.

Update 7-5-16:

All families have been notified for adoption of 5 puppies (Lira’s is still pending on her next surgery)
